While the words are synonymous, in common usage, childish tends to have a negative connotation while child-like has a more positive one.

When they say we are childish, they mean we are immature.

When I say child-like, I mean we have good qualities, associated with a child.

We are not immature; we face difficulties that they don’t and we struggle and try our hardest to work past.

However we are child-like. 

We feel things harder and wear our hearts on our sleeves so when we’re happy, we can light up any room.

We are excitable and enthusiastic. 

We can be super funny.

We can be the life of any party.

We are extra empathetic and inclusive.

And those are only some of the stuff I can think of off the top of my head. 

I used to feel embarrassed and awkward about it but I don’t care anymore cause it is who I am. And frankly I like it cause I get along better with babies and animals.
